The route

First summit finish in the Sistema Ibérico. The final 50 km are virtually all uphill, stacking Fuente de Rubielos and San Rafael straight into the ski-station climb to Valdelinares at 1,961 metres — a day of accumulated fatigue rather than fireworks.
